Why These Failures Happen

1
High voltage, small box — the magnetron and capacitor carry lethal charge even unplugged, which is the one appliance where DIY genuinely is not advisable
2
Arcing means something is exposed — usually a damaged waveguide cover rather than the magnetron, and continuing to run it damages the cavity
3
Built-in models run hotter — trim kits and cabinet enclosures restrict cooling airflow that a countertop unit takes for granted

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you service both Viking refrigeration and cooking appliances?
Yes — Viking is one of the few brands spanning both categories, and it's exactly the kind of whole-kitchen coverage we specialize in.
Is my Viking unit worth repairing?
Almost always. Viking appliances are built to last well over a decade, and most common faults are specific, repairable components rather than a sign the whole unit is failing.
Does my gas range need high-altitude conversion here?
Very likely, yes. Gas burners are jetted for a specific altitude band, and a range set up for sea level runs rich across the Front Range — yellow-tipping flames, soot on burner caps and pan bottoms, and a cooktop that never quite boils as fast as it should. Manufacturers supply high-altitude orifice kits for exactly this. Most units bought and installed locally are already converted, but appliances that moved with you from out of state frequently never were, and it is one of the first things we check on a cooking call.
Is a sparking microwave dangerous?
Stop using it. Arcing means something metallic is exposed — usually a damaged waveguide cover or a failing magnetron — and continuing to run it damages the cavity. This is the one appliance where we ask people to unplug it.
Does a built-in need a different technician from a freestanding unit?
For anything past the basics, yes. Panel weight changes the door hardware, cabinet depth changes the airflow the condenser gets, and dual sealed systems mean a fault on one side shows symptoms on the other. It is the part of the job generalist training does not cover.
What does Viking microwave repair cost?
It depends entirely on which component failed, so we quote after the diagnosis rather than over the phone. The diagnostic fee is flat and quoted when you book, and the repair quote is written and agreed before anyone starts — we publish our published cost ranges by fault if you want a sense of the range first.
Is my unit still under manufacturer warranty?
If it is, the repair should go through Viking's own authorised network to keep that cover intact — we work exclusively out of warranty. Read us the model and serial when you call and we will tell you if we think you are still covered, rather than finding out after.
